显然，张红梅对自己的声情并茂的讲述很满意。但她忘了，她父母都是军医，亲手医治的伤员不计其数。自然知道，如果鬼子是那么不堪一击，那么，半个中国和整个东南亚那么快落入鬼子手中，只能说在鬼子进犯时，中国、美国、英国的军队都在睡大觉；而且，从医学角度来说，在手榴弹投掷范围弹药库发生殉爆，鲁雪华就算是变形金刚，也会被高温和冲击波摧毁得无影无踪。
当然，对于他们唯一的这个宝贝女儿，他们自然不肯点破张红梅那编造幻想小说的才华，如果张红梅能穿越到21世纪，说不定还是抗战热播影视剧的编剧。但他们心里明白：自己女儿心中，已经深深烙印下了那个年轻主角的英雄影子。
当张红梅偷偷将鲁雪华从医院带回家时，两位家长对眼前这位英俊的青年军人也极有好感。鲁雪华的流利的英语和良好的谈吐给张红梅父母留下极深的印象，招待起来更是即为殷勤。
鲁雪华第一眼见到张红梅父亲时，就认出了正是为自己做最后诊疗的外科主任，不由得肃然起敬。张红梅父母都是留学美国的医护人员，父亲是资深外科教授，母亲是高级护师，也是虔诚的基督徒，一直在湘雅医学院任教和在湘雅医院行医。
当日寇的铁蹄踏进三湘大地后，张红梅父母看到太多的伤兵和受伤的无辜百姓，为日寇的残暴所激怒，于是放弃出国、去后方医院的诱惑，主动留守医院，作为军医，成了伤病员的守护神。
